Happy 2013!

Yes, I know I haven't blogged for a while... I had a good holiday with family and friends; lots of food, drink and rest from the trumpet.

Both my students and myself are back in the swing of things. One of my students did an amazing job at his Honour Band auditions and made Principle Trumpet (First Chair, First Trumpet) which means he's in charge of the whole trumpet section and also usually means he will get the solos and all the high parts.

Another one of my trumpet students just did his Grade 6 Royal Conservatory of Music Trumpet exam which I was able to find a spot outside and out of sight to listen. I think he did an amazing job... Considering his lips just 5 days before were severely chapped and could hardly make a sound at the one rehearsal with the piano accompanist, I am extremely pleased with how he sounded and really hope the adjudicator thinks the same! (I think he sounded great even if I didn't know his lips were not working just 5 days earlier)

Yet another one of my students had a breakthrough with his sound... Go away air sound, go away!!! It will probably take another week or two of persistence in keeping it going but after that hopefully muscle memory will take over so his mind can think about the next little breakthrough...

Here's a Photo of me playing with the Dan Hersog Big Band (I'm in the middle!)
